The lanky man sits knee to knee with the other investigators in the carriage as it races across the road to the crime scene. The brick roads feel unfamiliar compared to his home's dirt trails. The anxiety of going to a new town to work on an unfamiliar job makes sweat bead down his forehead despite the sharp cold weather hailing outside the vehicle. He was so lost in his own thoughts he didn't even notice the car's sudden stop until the passengers rudely shoved him out of the carriage. Snow soaked his pants as he sat there gathering his thoughts about the situation, above him looms a towering mansion, elegant details surrounding its walls to prove just how expensive this home is.
“You must be the new detective!” a firm yet cheerful voice approaches him.
Pulling him to his feet he can't help but be intimidated by the figure. The man radiated confidence as he stood with his back straight, he must have been at least a head taller than himself. The Deerstalker hat he wears ends up shadowing his face, making his features not very recognizable.
“Oh, it's a pleasure to meet you, i'm the new guy from- '' stumbling through his sentence he is cut off by the detective.
“No time for introductions New Guy, we must take to the case. It’s quite urgent.” The detective pulls him up the staircase as they enter the mansion.
The inside was a deep contrast to the exterior. What was left of the furniture was thrown out of place or damaged severely, you would think only a fire could cause this much destruction but the lack of burns contrast this. What hit next was the smell, a metallic weight hanging over the rooms, most definitely amplified by the amount of people wandering around as they collected evidence.
“Looks like you’re late Mr. Detective, where is the rest of your team?” a snobby overdressed man laughs
“You’re the one who is late,Mr. Private Detective! I was here minutes after the crime had taken place, I just had to wait till my newest member had arrived.” boasted Mr. Detective slapping his hand over the new guy's shoulder. As if they were summoned, 4 more people walked in, all with distinct features fitting a main cast.
They introduce themselves to the new guy; Ana and lystcifer being their crime scene analysts and Evi dance and Tex nicotine being their evidence technicians. They pull him into the bloodiest part of the scene making him uneasy. Despite his experience with working in crime scenes something felt more ominous as he approached, something that would be proven right as soon as he looked at the corpse on the crime scene. Mangled beyond recognition his mind was filled with what kind of brutality would have had to be done to make a body look like this, it made him sick immediately. Over the concern of his team mates he can hear the chuckling of the Private detective, he must have looked pathetic right now.The next thing he knows is being sat outside the mansion as he heaves, trying to get the image out of his head.
“It's ok, it's your first day. You’ve probably never seen anything like it…” comforts Mr. Detective, he must have been the one to drag him out of the room.
“I'm sorry,we have a case to solve, there's no time for me to wimp out.” He stands on his shaky knees but before he could enter the house, the detective stood in his way.
“We already finished up for the day. But take these keys, they should let you into your office.” Mr Detective tossed the key to him, he struggled to catch them having to scrape them off the ground.
“Heh, sorry uh.. We’ll see you tomorrow!” waves off the detective as he gets into a carriage of his own.
Left alone at the scene, he looks at the home, its unbelievable something so vile happened in such a beautiful house. What catches his eye is through the window he can see the private detective interviewing one of the distraught members of the mansion. Hopefully tomorrow he could also talk to the family to find out more information, or maybe talk to this private detective himself to find out more about the case. Finally, he leaves the house as well, filled with a new found determination to do better tomorrow than he did today.
Arriving at the department, his hopes are high as he plans to read up on everything already discovered for the case. The long corridor echoes his footsteps, he must have gotten here so early that no one else had arrived yet. Nonetheless he pushes onward approaching his office, swinging his door open only to see the fresh corpse of the private detective.
